“It’s so fun and festive,” one attendee shared. “I love the sailboats and the big ferry boats—it’s just a great parade!” Another spectator marveled at the event’s growing popularity, noting the family-friendly atmosphere and the massive turnout.
This year’s parade featured 26 preregistered boats, with more expected to join the lineup. Participants gathered near Fort Gorges before setting off, their brightly decorated vessels transforming the dark waters into a sparkling celebration of the season.
For spectators braving the cold, Portland Tugboat LLC’s fireworks display was a highlight of the evening. With the Maine State Pier, Bug Light Park, and the Eastern Promenade offering perfect vantage points, the event was described as “a huge draw of a crowd.”

Organizers and participants, many of them commercial fishermen and their families, spent hours in the cold preparing their boats for the event. One reflected on the effort involved, saying, “I was thinking about all the work they must have done. They must have been busy all week getting them ready. I appreciate that these people are just volunteering to decorate their boats.”
