NEW BEDFORD – A lecture next week at the New Bedford Whaling Museum will highlight the legendary ‘white fleet’ and the saga of dory-fishing cod, a tradition carried out by Portuguese fishermen from generation to generation until the 1970s.

Álvaro Garrido, an Economics professor at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, will present “The Portuguese and Cod Fishing in the Northwest Atlantic, a Legendary Heritage” on Thursday, April 27. The event, part of the museum’s Portuguese and Lusophone-World Lecture Series, will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
