PORTLAND (WGME) -- Federal biologists say Maine fishing gear killed an endangered right whale that washed up on Martha’s Vineyard back in January.

The cause of death of that female right whale was determined to be chronic entanglement.

The gear found wrapped around and cutting into her had the purple markings Maine lobstermen use on trap and buoy lines.
