The fishing industry on Cape Cod received a financial boost this week thanks to a push from one of the Cape’s state representatives.

Representative Dylan Fernandes (D-Falmouth) presented the $500,000 check to the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance (CCCFA) on Wednesday, October 9, outside of Fisherman’s View at 20 Freezer Road in Sandwich.

At 2 PM, he proudly handed the check over to members of the CCCFA. As boats swayed gently on the waves on the marina behind them, Rep. Fernandes spoke on the importance of the fishing industry on the Cape.

According to the alliance, almost 2,000 fishermen live and work on the Cape year-round, bringing nearly $73.8 million worth of fish to the Cape every year.

This multi-million dollar industry is essential for the Cape’s seasonal and year-round economies.
