JUNEAU - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game says southeast Alaska just saw its largest Tanner crab harvest in a decade.
KFSK reports that more than 1 million pounds of tanner crab was caught last month.
State biologist Joe Stratman says the largest catches came from the northern end of Southeast. He says one would have to go back to the 2000-2001 season for higher numbers.
The value of the season's harvest is placed just over $3.1 million, based on a dock price of $2.70 a pound.
Last month's catch narrowly exceeded last year's harvest by 12,000 pounds.
