Search efforts were suspended at dusk Monday for a 50-year-old fisherman reported to have fallen overboard from a commercial fishing vessel Saturday about 138 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, La.
The crewman, identified by family members as Felipe Lozano of Palacios, Texas, was reported missing from the shrimping vessel Miss Winnie around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 8th District headquarters in New Orleans received the initial report from the vessel Kenneth Cole that the vessel Miss Winnie reported a crewman falling overboard.
Watchstanders launched an two HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrews, one from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., and the other from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Coast Guard cutter Jacob Poroo, a Sentinel-class fast response cutter based at Pascagoula, Miss., arrived on scene Saturday and continued to search through the night into Monday, when the search was suspended at 5:30 p.m. The effort covered more than 2,000 square miles over 46 hours, according to the Coast Guard.
